Introduction
The Chief Financial Officer is a senior executive leader accountable for the full financial stewardship of a multi-site manufacturing business spanning operations across Gauteng, South Africa and Australia. The CFO will provide strategic financial leadership, enforce rigorous governance standards, and drive financial performance across all sites — while serving as the primary financial interface between the division and the JSE-listed Group.
This role demands a commercially sophisticated and internationally aware leader capable of managing cross-border financial complexity, navigating dual-jurisdiction regulatory environments, and delivering consistent, high-quality financial reporting to Group stakeholders. The successful incumbent will balance strategic oversight with hands-on operational finance leadership across geographically dispersed manufacturing operations.
Job description
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Financial Leadership
- Develop and execute the divisional financial strategy in alignment with Group strategic objectives across all jurisdictions.
- Provide financial insight and decision support to the Managing Director and Executive Leadership Team.
- Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and long-range financial planning across all South African and Australian manufacturing sites.
- Identify and evaluate capital investment opportunities, CAPEX proposals, and cost optimisation initiatives across geographies.
- Assess and advise on the financial implications of cross-border business decisions, currency exposure, and international expansion risks.
2. Group Reporting & Compliance
- Prepare and deliver accurate, timely financial reports to the Group CFO in accordance with Group reporting standards and deadlines.
- Ensure full compliance with IFRS across both jurisdictions and adherence to JSE Listings Requirements.
- Manage South African statutory obligations including SARS, Companies Act (Act 71 of 2008), and BBBEE financial compliance.
- Oversee Australian statutory and regulatory compliance including obligations to the Australian Taxation Office (ATO), ASIC reporting standards, and applicable Australian Accounting Standards (AASB) where required.
- Support Group-level consolidation, year-end audits, and interim reporting cycles incorporating multi-currency financials.
- Liaise with external auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies across both South Africa and Australia.
3. Cross-Border Financial Management
- Oversee foreign exchange (FX) risk management arising from AUD/ZAR currency exposure across intercompany transactions, procurement, and revenue streams.
- Manage transfer pricing compliance and intercompany financial arrangements between South African and Australian entities in line with OECD guidelines and local tax authority requirements.
- Ensure accurate multi-currency consolidation and elimination of intercompany balances for Group reporting purposes.
- Coordinate with the Group Treasury function on hedging strategies, repatriation of funds, and cash optimisation across jurisdictions.
- Monitor evolving tax treaty obligations between South Africa and Australia and ensure the business is appropriately structured and compliant.
4. Financial Operations & Internal Controls
- Oversee all day-to-day financial operations across all Gauteng sites and the Australian factory, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll finance, and treasury.
- Design, implement, and maintain a robust internal control framework to safeguard assets and ensure financial integrity across all geographies.
- Drive standardisation of financial processes, policies, and ERP systems across all manufacturing sites.
- Manage working capital, cash flow, and liquidity at both site level and consolidated divisional level.
5. Manufacturing Finance & Cost Management
- Lead manufacturing cost accounting, bill of materials (BOM) costing, and variance analysis across all production facilities.
- Provide detailed operational reporting including cost-per-unit analysis, margin analysis, and production efficiency metrics segmented by site and geography.
- Partner with Operations, Supply Chain, and Procurement to drive cost reduction and operational efficiency across South African and Australian facilities.
- Implement and monitor financial KPIs relevant to a multi-site, multi-jurisdiction manufacturing environment.
- Benchmark site-level financial performance across geographies to identify efficiency gaps and best-practice opportunities.
6. Stakeholder Engagement
- Serve as a credible and authoritative financial representative to internal and external stakeholders including Group Executives, Board Committees, lenders, insurers, and auditors across both jurisdictions.
- Engage proactively with site-level operations leaders in both South Africa and Australia to embed financial accountability and governance standards.
- Support investor relations activities and Group-level governance processes as required by the JSE-listed parent.
- Build and maintain productive relationships with Australian-based professional advisors including auditors, tax practitioners, and legal counsel.
7. People Leadership & Finance Function Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop the divisional finance team across all South African sites and provide financial oversight and direction to the Australian finance function.
- Define finance team structures, roles, and competency requirements appropriate to the scale and complexity of a multi-geography operation.
- Champion continuous improvement, technology adoption, and digital transformation within the finance function.
- Foster a high-performance, ethics-driven finance culture across all locations.
8. Risk Management & Governance
- Identify, assess, and manage financial, operational, and cross-border risks across the manufacturing division.
- Ensure adherence to Group governance frameworks, delegation of authority (DOA) policies, and ethics standards across all jurisdictions.
